'The mandate to protect'
I am writing to express my opinion on the creation of the Village of Woodbury. When the village vote was taken, the clear mandate was to prevent the formation of multiple villages within the town of Woodbury. With the formation of the village, the annexation of Woodbury property would become more difficult, but not impossible. The village protects our zoning laws and preserves our quality of life as we know it. The creation of the Village of Woodbury was mandated with the least amount of intrusion and expense. By the very existence of the village, we have prevented multiple villages from being formed in the town of Woodbury and any successful annexation of Woodbury property. The protection of the present zoning and expense of the village have been questionable, though. It is true that the state mandated the village to administer a town department, but I think that department could have been contracted to the town to administer. This would give us a truer view of what it would cost to administer the village, thereby, allowing the village to pursue the original voter mandate to protect the zoning and quality of life in Woodbury without all the expense and intrusion.
