‘We will have no one to blame but ourselves’
It was a pleasure meeting Village of Monroe Mayor James Purcell at the final concert of the 2013 summer series by the Millponds. He was excited to tell me that next summer, there will be eight concerts.
It is encouraging to see village officials working hard to rejuvenate the area.
Unfortunately, our current town officials - whose jurisdiction encompasses the villages of Monroe, Harriman and Kiryas Joel, and the unincorporated Town of Monroe - are not as responsive to residents’ needs as our village officials are.
Luckily, this November, a slate of candidates who also want to rejuvenate the area - and save the movie theater - is running to oust the current unresponsive town board.
United Monroe candidates Emily Convers, Dennis McWatters and Natalie Strassner will not sell out the Town of Monroe to the religious bloc special interest as the current town board is doing.
But the only way for residents of Monroe and Harriman to get our town back is to get all their family, friends and neighbors to get out and vote in November.
Massive turnout is the only way to win.
So please clear your calendar for November 5th now.
If we give our town away to Kiryas Joel piece by piece, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.
