'Vote the Climate Change deniers out of office'
Harper's Magazine reports scientists have found that in the next 130 years, the climate may warm to levels last seen 50 million years ago, and that the oceans are warming 40 percent faster than five-year-old estimates predicted.
Moreover, "Antarctica is losing 40 percent more ice than it was forty years ago, and Greenland was found to be melting four times faster than it was in 2003."
Anyone who still contends that Global Warming is a Hoax - and there are many among the phony "patriots" - should notice the network of facts observed by an array of scientists world-wide. As with theories of evolution, it is not the single fact that is persuasive, but the web in interrelated facts which all lead to the same conclusion: Climate Change is no Hoax. It is really happening.
And while the climate has changed in the past, it is not cyclical. There has always been a cause, and this time - the cause is us.
The latter is actually good news because it suggests that we can influence Global Warming by changing our behavior, such as reducing our polluting of the atmosphere with carbon.
Scientists do not make policy. Politicians do that. One would hope that they would educate themselves with the facts, which are available to anyone willing to look, or if they won't, that the voting public would, in sufficient numbers, posses the facts and consequently vote the Climate Change deniers out of office.
Young people seem to be more knowledgeable on this matter than many of their elders, and, besides, it is their future that is at stake. But we really can't wait until they are eligible to vote.
Not all opinions are equal. As we are reaching a tipping point, it is time to ignore the opinions of the uninformed, establish the effective policies to combat Global Warming, and take the necessary actions.
