Render unto Caesar ....
So a woman comes into my office and weeps. She and her husband are working minimum wage jobs while raising two children. They are trying to keep off of public assistance, but she cannot afford to have another child, cannot afford birth control, and birth control is not covered by her health insurance. What should she do?
Middle class people think that it is no big deal: Buy it yourself.
But I remember when I was poor and on food stamps. I had to budget the purchase of a newspaper and I was embarrassed when a friend would suggest that we stop for a cup of coffee because I couldnt afford it.
So I wanted to weep for her. Of course, I referred her to Planned Parenthood, but politicians who would keep her insurance company from providing birth control also want to de-fund Planned Parenthood.
I am telling you this just to give you some perspective on issues that have everyone so incensed about the separation of Church and State.
Here is a suggestion (not my idea; I got it from Jesus): Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars. Render unto God the things that are Gods.
