Prioritize life issues
Just prior to the vote on Palm Tree, the leader of the United Monroe organization wrote a letter to this newspaper accusing me of clouding the issue of Kiryas Joel’s expansion with other key political issues of the day.
As someone who contributes regularly to this forum, I have no problem having my opinions scrutinized- one would hope though in a more civil manner.
But now it’s time for clarification. As suggested, I never associated abortion, or any other national issue with that organization. All I did was simply distinguish between the local issues they were advocating for with the state issues that I felt to be more critical, and still do, namely abortion.
We should acknowledge that elections to a state office have major consequences beyond our local boundaries. Since abortion is usually on the legislative agenda, ensuring pro-life representation at the state level was something that I believed should have been considered by all voters- not just the issue of annexation and KJ.
Now it appears my concerns have been somewhat validated, with the election of James Skoufis to the State Senate, with his unequivocal support for abortion, New York is now on the verge of enacting laws which could codify permanently abortion on demand.
Again, I never confused the issues, I only prioritized them, because as a famous politician once said, “elections have consequences,” unfortunately, the consequences of abortion are final for the unborn child.
