‘No heart is stronger or bigger’
I want to thank the members of the ambulance, fire, police, highway, Monroe-Woodbury school security, custodians and bus drivers for their persistence during Hurricane Sandy to ensure the community’s health and safety.
Many do not realize the time and effort that was expended in planning for the arrival of the hurricane. Afterwards, meetings were held to see how to improve the response for next time.
These people sacrificed being home with their loved ones and taking care of their own homes for us.
I would also like to thank the Monroe-Woodbury School District for taking that extra step again. School officials transformed part of the high school into a shelter for our community members who were in need. They provided security, personnel to run the shelter and provided bus transportation.
The Monroe-Woodbury school district staffed the bus garage to ensure motor generators ran 24 hours to provide much needed fuel for emergency vehicles. After the storm, they provided warm showers for families.
In closing, it was nice to see everyone pull together. Without these organizations the situation would have been much worse. There is no heart stronger or bigger than those that sacrificed to serve us during the storm.
Again, thank you.
