Monroe Girl Scouts offer thanks to State Police, American Legion Post 488

On April 19, 13 troops of Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts from the Monroe Service Unit had a wonderful refresher course in Stranger Safety Awareness from New York State Trooper Steven Nevel of Troop F in Middletown.
Close to 90 girls listened attentively as Trooper Nevel reminded them of the necessity to know what to do if confronted by stranger awareness issues, whether it is on the playground, in the mall, on the Internet or even in their own neighborhoods.
The girls had an opportunity to ask questions and share some laughs. But most importantly, they seemed to really understand and appreciate the need to always stay sharp and know what to do if confronted by such matters.
We are very grateful to Trooper Nevel for taking the time from his busy schedule to travel to Monroe; and equally appreciative to American Legion Post 488 First Vice Commander Martin Currid - a former New York City Police Officer himself - for encouraging us to coordinate such a program and offering the legion hall as a meeting location.
We appreciated their positive feedback about the value of this program as well and look forward to offering future safety programs.
