Letter to the Editor: June is special
Operation Overload, known as D Day, was launched on June 6, 1944. It was geared to liberate Western Europe from Nazi Germany. June 19, 1865, Union troops entered Galveston Texas proclaiming Civil War end and Emancipation. Then on June 28, 1968, we observed the Stonewall Riots for LGBTQA global rights. June, a month to recall liberation.
June 4, 1989 also saw the Tiananmen Square massacre in China. Then we recall June 5, 1968 and Robert J. Kennedy assassinated by a young man. June, a month of hundreds seeking democracy killed, and a man who resolved the Cuban Bay of Pigs crisis killed. Liberations, killings and the month of June with our global history.
This June is special, it is the month where we have that short last minute time to ready for America’s 250th. We won liberty from England. It cost 25,000 patriots’ lives, about 1000 less than the British and Loyalists loss. One could say a “wash” to gain Liberty.
Our fellow African Americans emancipated in June. Our LGBTQA peers initiate their still ongoing battle for rights. Both groups are still fighting for “their Liberty.” The young pro-democracy Chinese were slaughtered for their desires and visions. July 4th and 250th, are still going to see our never ending battles and unfulfilled desires to be Free, in the Land of the Free. Respect the cost, embrace what we have, and seek your Liberty and true Freedoms.
