Kyle Roddy states his case for Assembly race
My name is Kyle Roddey and I am running for New York State Assembly to represent the 99th District. I would like to take this time to introduce myself to the Woodbury community.
I am currently the mayor of Goshen and I manage a small business. I grew up in the village and have a deep love for our region. After obtaining an undergraduate degree from SUNY Binghamton, I returned home to the Hudson Valley to work and pursue a master’s degree in teaching from Mount Saint Mary. While enrolled in graduate school and managing a business I took a more active interest in my community by running for Village Trustee in 2009. Two years later I ran for mayor.
As mayor, I have worked hard, successfully solving many long-standing challenges. Specifically I have eliminated 1-1/2 positions through attrition and I have cut costs. I was able to end free health care for elected officials, one of the many highlights of my tenure. From day one, I have governed as a fiscal conservative and this year we successfully passed a budget that was under the tax cap.
Despite our success, many challenges remain. I am running to represent you in the Assembly because Albany is not working to fix New York. Our property taxes continue to grow and this state continues to frighten businesses away. We desperately need tax relief for our residents.
We need to unshackle the small business owner by deregulating New York. I have first-hand experience in understanding the unique challenges our business owners face at the hands of intrusive, oversized government.
It is essential that we end unfunded mandates that drive up the cost of education and impede teachers from successfully innovating in the classroom. Education will always be a priority for me and as an assemblyman I will focus on strengthening our system while bringing down the cost.
I am the endorsed candidate of the Orange and Rockland county Republican committees, Conservative committees and the Independence Party. I have additionally been endorsed by Orange County Sheriff Carl E. Dubois. When I was interviewing with these groups, they all remarked on the combination of enthusiasm and experience that I hope to bring to Albany.
When voting in the Sept. 13, Republican and Conservative primary, please consider casting your vote for me.
