‘It is beyond contempt that we have denyers in our midst who cannot recognize the racism which permeated our history’

This letter was going to be about the great wall of Nininger Road and the slums being constructed there. How can such a project be allowed without green spaces, water provisions and sewerage capacity being accounted for? It is a dismal example of a bargains, lack of accountability, abuse of the public trust and the decline of our governance.

That being said I must go on to something else.

I just read the current issue of The Photo News and its headline article concerning the topic CRT as explained by Colin Schmitt. At best Mr. Schmitt is ignorant and at the worst he is a purveyor of racism and hate.

(Photo News Managing Editor Bob) Quinn’s lack of balance in the article is beyond troubling.

Any coherent view of our history provides a road map of racism and bigotry. We enslaved a race of people for hundreds of years, employed breeding, torture and denial of human rights.

After the civil war emancipation was met with segregation, Jim Crow and lynching. It was followed by denying voting rights, segregated schools and communities.

It is beyond contempt that we have denyers in our midst who cannot recognize the racism which permeated our history and still raises its ugly head in our current era.

I am so disappointed in the poor journalism by Mr. Quinn and that a man of Mr. Schmitt’s ilk is in elected office. Fear of the other has always been a trait of the ignorant and those propagating fascism.

Equality in society requires a high degree of education, discussion of reality and extensive interaction. We are all entitled to our opinions but not the obscurity of the facts.

This article serves to show how our realities have been siloed by those who select fear/lies in lieu to the truths of history.
