In support of the road for the YMCA

An open letter to Monroe Village Mayor Dwyer, and Monroe Village Trustees Alley, Behringer, Conklin and Houle:
I write as a longtime resident of Chester and the Monroe-Woodbury School District.
    We moved here in 1986.
In all of this time, I have seen nothing bring people together like the YMCA.
Not church, nor school nor social groups.
The YMCA attracts all types of people; all ages, genders, socio-economic, all different interest, abilities and disabilities.
The Y has great summer camp and after-school programs, things for teens, tweens, adults, seniors and more.
The Y is NOT just another gym.
And with the addition of the pool, SOFY's positive impact will increase exponentially.
SOFY is an amazing asset to the entire region.
Please, Monroe Village Mayor and Trustees, do not force it to move away for lack of a road.
The Gilbert Street Extension plan was approved by the DOT, the entire legislature of Orange County and the previous Village Planning Board.
The YMCA is working to further improve the parking lot/pass-through situation; I understand they will present this to the Planning Board soon.
    What I ask is simple:
Please allow the Monroe Village Planning Board to do their work; they have experience and understanding of these situations.
And please, Village Mayor and Trustees, please listen to their professional findings.
Then move on their recommendations before the Monroe Village building moratorium takes effect.
SOFY is an amazing asset to the entire region.
    Don’t let it slip away.
    Most sincerely,
    Susannah Devine
    Chester
