Dorey Houle seeks election as Monroe Village trustee

I am Dorey Houle and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Trustee of the Village of Monroe. My husband, Anthony, and I moved our family from Staten Island to Monroe in 2014. My teenage sons, Harrison and Jake, are students at M-WHS. Olivia is a fourth grader at Pine Tree. My 5-year old twins, McKenna and Logan, will start kindergarten in September at Sapphire Elementary. Anthony is a police officer with NYPD.
Prior to our move I was a full-time lecturer and director of the American Sign Language (ASL) program in the Department of World Languages and Literatures at the City University of New York/College of Staten Island, the same college where I did my undergraduate and graduate work.
Upon our arrival to Monroe we quickly became acquainted with the challenges that faced our new town. As a solution-oriented person I became involved in the politics of the Town of Monroe, walking my neighborhood to collect signatures for qualified candidates and attending United Monroe fund raisers.
I was raised with the belief that each of us has a responsibility to give back to our community. Many of you may have seen me at the Monroe Free Library leading one of my sign language programs. I have also volunteered my time with the Girl Scouts here in Monroe teaching the girls how to sign the Pledge of Allegiance. We have supported our parish, Sacred Heart, and the veterans at the American Legion Post 488 attending various fund raisers.
Monroe has a natural beauty that is unmatched in any other community. The Village is lucky enough to claim the ponds as the center of its downtown. It isn’t difficult to picture the Monroe so many of my neighbors have told me about as I sat and listened to their stories. I would love to see a return of that prosperity. I believe that with thoughtfulness and careful planning we can make the Village of Monroe a place each of us is proud to call home.
As the wife of a retired combat veteran I have learned to juggle many responsibilities. With my personal and professional experiences I am certain I can serve the Village of Monroe as a Trustee with professionalism and vigor. I look forward to the possibility of working with the Board toward a new Monroe in the 21st Century.
