Basketball Classic raises $9,000
On Friday, Nov. 16th, members of the North Main Street School community took part in our annual North Main Basketball Classic to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
This night, as in years past, would not have been possible without the help and support of many people both inside and outside the walls of North Main.
I am pleased to announce that this year we raised more than $9,000.
In honor of the memory of a former student whose life was sadly cut too short after he lost his battle with leukemia, $7,000 will be given to St. Jude’s.
The remaining money will be donated to the relief efforts for those still recovering from Hurricane Sandy.
We are truly grateful to the following:
• All teachers and staff who took part in the event by playing in the game, selling tickets and cheer leading.
• The North Main PTA, who put in countless hours organizing the evening and making certain it ran smoothly.
• The Monroe-Woodbury High School administration for opening your doors and allowing us to take over the gym and hallways for the evening.
• Members of the SUNY New Paltz St. Jude’s Club, who set up, sold concessions and cleaned up at the end of the evening.
• Christian Lopez, an adopted member of the North Main Community, who donated his time, along with basketballs, water bottles and coupons on behalf of Modell’s.
• The Monroe-Woodbury High School custodial staff who worked tirelessly and went out of their way to make sure that North Main had everything we needed.
• District administration and our Board of Education who always support our efforts.
More than any one person or group who assisted with the event, the night would not have been possible without the support of our students and their families. Each year they pack the high school, purchase team merchandise and lead the rally to give money and hope to the children of St. Jude’s.
It was another example of a night in which I was very proud to be a part of the North Main Community.
Sincerely,
Matthew Kravatz, principal
