Harley Doles announces his bid for re-election to Monroe Town Board

“Good government,” wrote Thomas Jefferson “shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned.” In 2010, I introduced and passed for the first time Monroe’s “0% no tax increase budget.” Since then, New York State, with its 2 percent cap, and other taxing agencies are beginning to embrace Jefferson’s metaphor. The public deserves to keep the fruits of their labor. Cheap campaign promises are the bad ingredients that failed policies are made from. Not so in Monroe. I am Harley Doles, councilman for the Town of Monroe and seeking re-election. Since assuming the majority position in the Town Board, we have done what partisan politics talks about but never really does: Make decisions for that benefit the people. Together, massive spending cuts on consultants have been eliminated. Together, we have taken painful steps that employee’s pay their “fair share” to health care. Together, we have opened parks, opened government to the citizen activist and provided new streams of revenue from previously tax-exempt properties. Sounds simple? Yes! But this is what Jefferson’s recipe for good governing is about. Simple, proven approaches combined with the public’s input and fashioned with the cooperation of opposing parties to create a better and more affordable life for Monroe’s residents. Come to your Town Board meetings and tell us what you think and how we can improve Monroe. And remember to vote on Nov. 8. Harley E. Doles Councilman Town of Monroe
