Grow up, Board of Education
Theresa Budich has certainly had a colorful past on the Monroe-Woodbury School Board. I personally believe she was re-elected after a previous failed run because M-W school voters wanted more transparency in BOE business and because she has never been afraid to ask questions, to put herself in the hot seat or to defend her often maverick point of view. This latest clash between Ms. Budich and the rest of the Board reeks of the very things the board is accusing Ms. Budich of - and more. Since the board claims no impropriety, the relationship between the applicant and the superintendent should have been divulged as part of the hiring process. This would have avoided any discussion of possible nepotism, Ms. Budich could have then voted against the hire, the majority would have ruled and this whole issue would be moot. For Ms. Budich to merely question the hiring process does not warrant a resolution of admonition. Can’t the board just agree to disagree as part of the public record? What a waste of precious time! Is this a witch-hunt? I believe the BOE spends too much time on public relations and not enough time on listening to each other, trying to get along and solving the district’s problems. M-W starts to teach these skills in kindergarten. Differences of opinion often spark more creative solutions to problems and I, for one, am glad that Theresa Budich has the time to serve, the will to do right by the district and the fortitude to disagree when she sees things differently. She is doing what she was elected to do. It frightens me to think of the possibility that all of the board members would agree on all of the issues all of the time. Karen D. Ungerer Highland Mills
