Dan Burke announces his bid for the Monroe Town Board
The citizens of Monroe pay their town taxes every January and deserve to know that their town board makes careful decisions on how their tax money is spent. That issue, above all, is why I am running for Councilman in Monroe. I am Dan Burke. I hope you know me from my many years of being an active participant in the public life of Monroe. You may have met me at the Dog Shelter where I have been Monroe’s Animal Control Officer for the past year. I am that white haired guy who gives the Dog Report monthly at the Town Board meetings. At the shelter, I was able to reduce expenses while promoting adoptions and continuing good care for our dogs. As Chair of the Zoning Board of Appeals, I made sure that the board heard and considered the testimony and documentation of every citizen who came before us. I kept an eye on the ZBA budget so that necessary engineering fees came from escrow accounts and not general tax funds. I also declined the annual stipend budgeted for the Chair. My background includes Cardinal Hayes High School, Iona College and some MBA credits at NYU. I managed homeless families programs for the City of New York and had a thirty year career in Human Resources. I was president of a lively NYC Emerald Society. I was an early supporter of the Heritage Trail. I am a member of the Sierra Club. For the last twenty years, I have been active politically in Monroe striving for a calm consensus steering us away from the personal towards the issues and positions that unite us. I want to bring that talent to the Town Board. The divisions in the Town of Monroe are unique and can only be bridged through open discussion and respect for all sides. Lastly, governing fairly is hard. Do not leave those of us who devote so much energy to getting it right out on our own. Please vote on Election Day. If you do, I will remember that you did your part and will give you my best efforts every day. Daniel J. Burke Monroe
