    Kids’ wind program begins March 5 Cornwall — The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum in Cornwall will offer a five-week after-school program called “Winds of March” beginning Tuesday, March 8, from 3:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Outdoor Discovery Center on Muser Drive. Kindergarten through second-graders will explore and create things that fly. Youngsters will join Environmental Educator Carl Heitmuller to make kites, build paper airplanes, observe rocket launching and learn how to throw a boomerang. Weather permitting, the children will test their creations outside at the Outdoor Discovery Center. Fee is $90 and $75 for museum members. Space is limited. Pre-paid registration is required by calling 534-5506. Tuxedo kindergarten registration Tuxedo — Kindergarten registration for George Grant Mason School in Tuxedo is underway. Registration has two components: An orientation for parents on Friday, March 4, in the George Grant Mason School and kindergarten screening/registration held on Thursday, March 31. The parent orientation will acquaint parents with teachers, the school nurse, the school day and provide aid in the process of completing the registration packet which will be distributed at the time of the Orientation. All completed packets are due back the day of your child’s Screening/Registration appointment. Parents are required to bring to signed proof of the child’s birth certificate and current immunization record. In some instances, doctor-verified disease histories (for mumps, chicken pox or measles) or blood titers (for measles, mumps or rubella) are accepted as evidence of immunity. Call 351-4797 for more information. Chester kindergarten registration Chester — The Chester School District has begun kindergarten registration for the forthcoming year. Parents of children who will be entering kindergarten in September should contact Debra Lys at Chester Elementary School at 469-2178 or dlys@chesterufsd.org to request their registration packet. Packets will be mailed out the first week of March. Children must be five years old on or before Dec. 1, 2011 to be eligible to enter kindergarten in September. Registration for the 2011-2012 School year will be held by appointment only from April 1 to 15. Kindergarten orientation will be May 16 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and kindergarten screening will be June 6 to 10. Call for entries for state Media Arts Teachers Association show White Plains - Junior and senior high school students from the Lower Hudson Region are invited to show their videos, photography, sound and computer art at Westchester Community College on March 15. This regional show is organized annually by the New York State Media Arts Teachers Association. More than 200 students from schools in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess counties participate. The Westchester Community College Media Services Department will host the show in the classroom building on its Valhalla campus. The show is an opportunity for students to exhibit their own work and see media art produced by peers. For teachers, it is a chance to meet professionally and discuss technology and curricula. The event also serves as an audition site for students applying to the New York State Summer School of the Arts (media arts), a four week intensive program at SUNY Oswego offered by the state Education Department.
