M-W parent-teacher conferences begin next week Central Valley The following is a brief calendar of upcoming events, programs and meetings within the Monroe-Woodbury School District: Grades 2-5 Evening Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Monday, Nov. 14. High School PTSA will meet Tuesday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m., Room 130. Grades 9-12 Evening Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15. Middle School PTA will meet Wednesday, Nov. 16, 9:30 a.m. Board of Education meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, 6 p.m. Smith Clove PTA will meet Thursday, Nov. 17, 9:30 a.m. Grades 9-12 Evening Parent Teacher Conferences will be held Thursday, Nov. 17. Pine Tree PTA will meet Thursday, Nov. 17, 7 p.m. Register for M-W youth wrestling next Wednesday Central Valley Registration for the Monroe-Woodbury youth wrestling team takes place Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Monroe-Woodbury High School. The team attracts wrestlers from grades three through eight who practice on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at the high school. The cost is $105, which is non-refundable. St. Jude benefit basketball game is set for Nov. 18 CENTRAL VALLEY North Main Elementary School will hold its fifth annual faculty basketball game to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at Monroe-Woodbury High School. The good-natured rivalry between Assistant Principal Dolores Terlecky’s “Red Team” and Principal Matthew Kravatz’s “Blue Team continues. Last year, with almost 2,000 people attending, the game ended in a heated tie. During its first four years, almost $30,000 has been raised to support the children’s hospital. The game is played in memory of a North Main student who died of leukemia. Kravatz is also a childhood cancer survivor. Tickets are $5 for adults in advance or $7 at the door; and $3 per child under age 14 at all times. Checks should be made payable to St. Jude. To purchase advance tickets, call 460-6800 between 8:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Soldier Support Day is Nov. 19 MONROE The Monroe Girl Scout Service Unit will hold its first “Soldier Support Day” on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Sapphire Elementary School’s cafeteria. Girl Scouts of all levels are invited to participate and send “some tokens of appreciation to our soldiers serving in harm’s way,” according to organizers. Girl Scouts will sew pillowcases and quilt squares, write letters and make holiday decorations. In addition, this event will be used as a collection site for donations from community members. Santa is expected there ,too. The Spectrum Project is a local organization that supports our local children with autism and related disabilities.
