Yoga center to offer course on mindfulness in relationships
GOSHEN-Yoga for Wellbeing will present the workshop “Mindfulness in Relationships” from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. It will be led by Dr. Ruth Landstrom, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist who has been studying yoga and mindfulness meditation (Buddhist vipassana) for many years. The workshop will explore the use of mindfulness practice in daily life, especially in relationships with spouses, children, parents, bosses, coworkers, and friends. Mindfulness is considered a tool to help individuals see themselves and others more clearly, without judgment, so that new responses become possible when someone “pushes buttons.” The goal of the workshop is to give each participant first-hand experience of how mindful awareness feels different from the habitual state of being lost in thought. It will explore mindfulness of daily activities, like eating and breathing, as well as mindfulness of the thoughts and feelings that arise in connection with particular relationships. It will end with a discussion of what practices can bring mindfulness into daily lives. The fee is $25. Yoga for Wellbeing, located at 5 Coates Drive in Goshen, can be reached at 294-9644 or www.yogaforwellbeing.org.
