Woodbury deserves a greater share from the cash cow'
To the editor: Woodbury Common generates a lion's share of sales tax revenue for Orange County. It is a "cash cow" that feeds the county with revenue but also burdens Woodbury with increased traffic congestion and Woodbury taxpayers with increased police and court costs. For years, the County Executive has been opposed to negotiating with Woodbury to address these cost issues by having a greater share of the Sales Tax revenues flow to Woodbury. As your representative in the County, I have continuously brought these facts out before the legislature and last fall I was able, with your help, to persuade the County Executive to change his position. He now agrees to work with us and to try to negotiate a greater share of sales tax revenue for Woodbury. This never would've happened if the Woodbury residents hadn't come out to support me over the anti-KJ pipeline issue. I am a big believer in the power of the grass roots and I think we made the County Executive a big believer, too. It is extremely important to keep this issue on the front burner for Woodbury.
