Central Valley - Everyone agreed that Event Chair Carol Colegrove and the hard-working members of her committee deserve high praise for the success of Winslow Therapeutic Center’s “Denim and Diamonds Gala.” More than 300 guests attended the annual fund raiser, which was held on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Falkirk Estate and Country Club in Central Valley. The proceeds of the event, which also served to celebrate Winslow’s 36th anniversary, exceeded $72,000. The open bar, full course dinner, festive atmosphere, and dancing to the music of 18-time Grammy winner Jimmy Sturr and his orchestra were all major attractions. But the real reason people came and reached deep into their pockets for the silent and live auctions may have had more to do with knowing Winslow Therapeutic Center’s work and its accomplishments. They may have been also moved after watching a brief “Devin” video presentation that evening. Produced by “Ready-Set-Snap,” the video featured children with special needs enjoying their horseback riding experience at Winslow. One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of this year’s “Winslow Award.” This year’s honorees were Wayne and Carla Corts of Central Valley, who are not only the owners of the Falkirk Estate and Country Club but who have remained generous and longtime supporters of Winslow Therapeutic Center and its worthy programs. Winslow, founded in 1974, is a not for profit Hippotherapy and Therapeutic Riding Center devoted to the special needs population of Orange and surrounding counties. The Center is located on 100 acres of scenic land just off Route 17A in Warwick, has been offering unique and often life-changing horseback riding experiences to children and adults in this community since 1974.
