Monroe — A fund raiser held Saturday at the Bourbon Street Bar and Grill to help offset some of the medical expenses Rene Guerriero faces as she undergoes treatment for Stage IV breast cancer was another reminder of what people in this community can do for each another. The event was organized by a friends of Guerriero who called themselves Team Sunshine, in part, because it reflects on her spirit. Jeanne King, one of the organizers, described the party this way: “Friends, family and caring strangers came in and gave generous donation to help Rene and her husband as they bravely fight stage IV breast cancer. Rene showed up for the party with her husband and two boys, Lincoln (7) and Eli (5). There were hugs, kisses, laughter, music .. a perfect celebration for our beautiful friend. Rene told us this morning, 'So, I would have to say that last night was one of the TOP 5 nights of my life. Thank you all so much for the love and support. Words would never be able to explain my feelings love and emotions.’” Then King added: “Team Sunshine is grateful to so many local businesses in our community who generously donating prizes for the night. Even with hurricane damage, businesses big and small reached into their pockets to help a beautiful woman fight her tough battle with cancer. The human spirit is an amazing thing. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
