Warwick orchards join together to create New York's first Apple Trail

Warwick - Warwick’s six fruit orchards have cooperatively formed the Warwick Valley Apple Trail, which will seek to build on Warwick’s history and reputation as an apple-growing region by providing greater agricultural marketing and promotional opportunities. The orchards are Apple Ridge (formerly Jessup Road), Applewood, Masker, Ochs, Pennings and Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery. They have agreed to join together in hopes to develop and promote Warwick as an apple growing, picking and agri-tourism destination. Currently the six orchards on the trail grow over 50 different apple varieties on over 700 hundred acres in the Town of Warwick. The Apple Trail designation was created under New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ Farm, Apple, and Cuisine Trail Designation Program. In addition to apples, the orchards along the trail offer apple pies, pears, peaches, cider doughnuts, cider, hard cider, pumpkins, wagon rides, jams, ice cream, wines, fruit liqueurs and many other seasonal fruits and vegetables. “We really don’t compete with each other,” said Jason Grizzanti co-owner of Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery. “Each orchard has different strengths. We hope that with the formation of the Warwick Valley Apple Trail, we can highlight each orchard and help further solidify Warwick as an agricultural destination.” The Warwick Valley Apple Trail’s first joint venture will be a Gold Sponsorship of this year’s Applefest, allowing the group to unveil the trail to the public.
