Middletown — Literacy Volunteers of Western Orange County was able to infuse over 20 new tutors into last fall’s programs. More tutors are needed, however, so a spring workshop has been scheduled. The spring workshop includes a 90-minute orientation, an independent reading assignment, prior to a two-day conference. Orientation will be held at the organization’s office in the Southwinds Retirement Home at 70 Fulton St. in Middletown. Participants may choose between an orientation session at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 13, or at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 18. The two-day conference will be held at Southwinds, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, with continental breakfast and lunch provided, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, with lunch provided. The organization works to improve lives through literacy. Adults who understand and speak English are taught to read and write the language. Adult speakers of other languages are taught to understand, speak, read and write English. If you can read, you can teach someone else how to read.
