Tuxedo, Woodbury get grants for bulletproof vests
WASHINGTON - The towns of Tuxedo and Woodbury will receive funding through a national program that helps local police departments purchase bulletproof vests and improve safety measures for local officers. Tuxedo will receive $879.33 while Woodbury will receive $752. According to a press release from U.S. Rep. Sue Kelly's office on Wednesday, the funding comes through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program, which is administered by the U.S. Justice Department. The program is designed to assist smaller police departments with smaller budgets, particularly those in more rural areas like the Hudson Valley. The grants cover up to 50 percent of the costs. The Tuxedo department lists 12 officers and requests two new or replacement vests, while Woodbury lists 23 officers and requests two vests, according information supplied by Kelly's office.
