Tuxedo town board on the move

Tuxedo - The purchase of a photocopier, sale of a dump truck, resignation of a police officer or appointment of a laborer are the types of issues that make up much, if not most, of the agenda at town board meetings. Tuxedo Town Supervisor Peter M. Dolan wants the meetings to be as informative as possible. In his “Town Supervisor Update,” he speaks out on many issues the town is dealing with - even though they may not be on the agenda for any action that evening. Included in his April 10 update, for instance, was a report on more than 30 stray cats in the part of town known as East Village. The Tuxedo Town Board has taken to bringing others in the town government, and even those outside of town government, to conduct open forums at the town board meetings. In the past six weeks the town planner gave a presentation on the large Tuxedo Reserve development that is now before the planning board and the Tuxedo School District Superintendent explained the district’s 2006-2007 proposed budget. This spirit of going beyond what is merely required has now taken on a geographical hue. Dolan wants the meetings to “move to some hot spots to get more people to the meetings.” The April 24 Town Board meeting will be held at the Italian/American Club on 152 East Village Road at 7:30 p.m. “The change in venue will influence the agenda,” said Dolan. He expects much citizen input on the stray cat problem there. Future sites of 2006 Town Board meetings include the Eagle Valley Fire House, the Tuxedo Park Village Hall and the Sterling Forest Fire Company in Laurel Ridge.
