Town of Monroe Operation Clean Sweep set for April 16

    MONROE-The annual Operation Clean Sweep in the Town of Monroe will take place on Saturday, April 16, from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are to meet in the parking lot of Sacred Heart Church at 26 Still Road at 8 a.m. Sponsored by The Southeast Regional Chamber Council, a committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, Inc., Operation Clean Sweep is an Earth Day-related event. There will be free refreshments and T-shirts for volunteers as well as a supervised Clean-up program for children under the age of 11. In Monroe, plans are to clean up litter in an area from the intersection of Route 17 and 17M in the Village of Harriman to the Bank of New York Building & Wally's Ice Cream Parlor in the Village of Monroe. Town Supervisor Sandy Leonard said residents who prefer to focus their efforts on areas in their own neighborhoods should first come to Sacred Heart at 8 a.m. and speak to Highway Superintendent Roy Montanye as to where the collected trash will be deposited. Local Scout troops will participate as will many local merchants. Contributions of rakes, gloves, and garbage bags are needed as well as volunteers.
