MONROE-The Monroe Community Food Pantry is looking for food and monetary donations to keep its shelves stocked for the upcoming months. Although the Pantry is open year ‘round, there is particular need this time of year. Currently, the Pantry is starting to prepare food baskets for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Holiday season. Frozen turkeys (small ones are most useful) are particularly wanted, as they make a very welcome addition to the baskets. Non-perishable foods and holiday items also are welcomed. The Monroe Community Food Pantry is an non-profit organization that provides nutritious food and other staples such as diapers, juice, shampoo, soap and more. The Pantry was established to help people in our local communities - the unemployed, the underemployed, elderly people on fixed incomes, single parents and others who may be going through a difficult period. No one in need is refused help. The Pantry is completely staffed by volunteers. If you would like to make a financial contribution to the Pantry, please send it to: The Monroe Community Food Pantry, 47 Maple Avenue East, Monroe, NY 10950. In the past, cash gifts have allowed the Pantry to purchase fresh foods, canned hams, a freezer, a hand-truck and other necessities. We also welcome food donations from individuals, groups and food drives. Food donations can be brought to the office Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please call 783-6371 to schedule delivery of large quantities of goods and/or perishable items to the Pantry. The Food Pantry is located at the rear of the United Methodist Church, 47 Maple Ave. East, Monroe. The Pantry is open the second and fourth Saturday of each month, from 9:30-11 a.m.
