The spunk and courage to perform

To the editor: I am writing to you to let you know that I awaited your critique of the Monroe-Woodbury High School production of “Fiddler on the Roof” with some anxiety, as well as excitement. I look forward to your annual opinion and insights of the school plays. I am grateful for your kind words about my son’s performance in the show. But your sarcastic remarks about some aspects of the two main supporting actors in their roles of Motel, the tailor, and Perchik, the university student, were a little too harsh. I wish to remind you that these are young, aspiring actors and actresses who spend long hours, after school, trying their best, to put on the best performances they can. Some are more gifted than others, but all have their special talents which they bring to the performance. In my opinion, all of them have a lot of spunk and courage to get on stage in front of hundreds of people and perform. They are all stars in the entire universe that make a hit show. We agree that this production was wonderful. And those two male supporting actors were, at times, comical and passionless, but they were true to their characters. All of the cast and ensemble are to be commended and be proud of their performances. Vincent LaSalle (Tevye’s “Papa”) Monroe
