Cornwall — The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum has hired Noreen Nannini as a teacher for the Young Naturalist Pre-school program. Nannini, a former Young Naturalist parent, holds degrees in elementary education, special education and reading. She also has several years of teaching experience. “I enjoy nature and having been a Young Naturalist parent I have witnessed first hand how learning and interacting with the environment can be an incredible advantage to the youth of today,” Nannini said in the museum’s press release announcing her hiring. The Young Naturalist Pre-school program is held at the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road in Cornwall. This program emphasizes science-based activities, outdoor experiences, social skills and preparation for kindergarten using the resources of the Nature Museum including its collection of live animals and its 177 acres of fields, ponds and woodlands. Children learn colors, shapes, letters and numbers through direct sensory experiences with the natural world. The Young Naturalist Program runs from September to June and currently has openings available for the afternoon classes. Many parents embrace the afternoon program as an opportunity for their children to develop increased stamina for full-day Kindergarten. New families may learn more about the program at the museum’s Web site, www.hhnaturemuseum.org or by calling 845-534-5506, ext. 204.
