Supporting Leonard, Weeks and Martin

To the editor: As a resident of the Monroe area for more than 25 years, I am writing to hopefully open the eyes of people by making them aware of the excellent job that is being done by our current town board. On Saturday, Oct. 29, a group of citizens lead by Sandy Leonard, Don Weeks, Peter Martin and Jim Rogers, current Town Board members, along with Charles Finnerty of the Town’s Planning board, and Roy Montayne, our Highway Superintendent, gathered at our Senior Center to begin a well-publicized tour of the new town park lands that are in the planning stages. This was the opportunity many have been waiting for - to review what has been done, express ideas for our parks and, frankly, to see what the politicians have been up to. These beautiful parcels of property acquired by the town board are very impressive locations and are already in various stages of becoming beautiful town parks. The Town Board has done what they said they would do - they have developed and implemented a very workable park plan without gigantic tax burdens. With their five-year park plan, the board is on its way to developing the beautiful parks we need and deserve. Our new parks address the strong need for sports fields, and also include beautiful passive recreational ideas as well. Bravo, town board members, congratulations on keeping your word; you have done a great job. I ask Monroe residents to please think very carefully about how you plan to vote on Nov. 8. We must allow our town to continue to be managed the way it should be managed, with accomplishments that can be seen. I urge all residents to vote for Sandy Leonard, Don Weeks and Peter Martin for re-election. If you truly believe you need to save anything, it should be our current town board. Respectfully, John S.
