SUNY chancellor to discuss future at luncheon
Orange County On Monday, Dec. 12, the Orange County Citizens Foundation will co-host “SUNY Goes Global,” a luncheon featuring acting SUNY Chancellor John R. Ryan, who will discuss the university’s plans for a higher education system in the future. The event was originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 9. “I am pleased that Chancellor Ryan will visit the Newburgh Campus and speak about the University’s significant efforts to bring a global perspective to many of our programs,” said Dr. Bill Richards, SUNY Orange president. “Plans to expand our International Studies program and our partnerships with international companies mirror similar efforts throughout the university.” Ryan was named acting chancellor of New York’s system of higher education in June 2005. The SUNY system is comprised of 64 campuses, with more than 80,000 employees, and enrolls more than 413,000 students. Ryan also oversees the university’s $3 billion capital campaign. Prior to his appointment, Admiral Ryan was the president of the State University of New York Maritime College. After less than two years in that role, he assumed additional responsibilities as interim president of the University at Albany. Ryan also served as the 56th superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis from 1998 to 2002. The luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the SUNY campus at 1 Washington Center in Newburgh. The event is sponsored by Riverside Bank, the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, the SUNY Orange Foundation, and the Hudson Valley International Trade Association. Tickets are $20.
