State police nab Canadians, 110 pounds of pot

    Woodbury - Two Canadians are being held on $1 million dollar bond after state police confiscated 110 pounds of marijuana from their truck. State Police said the pair were arrested following a traffic stop Wednesday morning at 12:30 on the southbound lane of the Thruway in the town of Woodbury. According to a press release from the Monroe Barracks, troopers stopped a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Jean Desjardins for an unsafe lane change. When troopers searched the truck, they reported finding about 110 pounds of hydroponically grown marijuana, packaged in 100 Ziplock bags weighing about one pound each. The haul had an estimated street value of $500,000. Desjardins, 65, of St. Mathieu, Quebec, and Tammy K. Peterson-Clements, 30, of Flesherton, Ontario, were charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony. They were arraigned before Monroe Town Justice Morton Marshak and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bail or $1 million bond.
