State Police arrest father and son following DWI stop on Route 208

    Monroe - A Washingtonville man and his son were sent to the Orange County Jail following an incident last Friday night on Route 208. According to the State Police Web site, a trooper stopped a vehicle driven Henry M. Steiper Jr., 52, in the Village of Washingtonville on a violation of state vehicle and traffic laws. Police said Steiper and the front seat passenger, his son Matthew J. Steiper, 23, were uncooperative while the trooper was investigating the sobriety of the driver. At one point, police said, Matthew Steiper gave the trooper the middle finger and then began to urinate on the sidewalk in public, all while yelling profanities. Meanwhile, after being charged with driving while intoxicated, police said the elder Steiper Henry broke a rear window of the back of a police car. Both men were taken to the barracks in Monroe. Henry M. Steiper Jr. was charged with driving while intoxicated, third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. His son was charged with Resisting Arrest, Public Lewdness, Disorderly Conduct And Second-Degree Obstructing Governmental Administration. They were arraigned in the Village of Monroe Court and sent to Orange County Jail in lieu of bail.
