ALBANY — The Crusaders sent three wrestlers to the NYSPHSAA State wrestling championships last weekend at the Times Union Center in Albany.
Dylan Earl, Marco Vespa and Sam Santander had qualified by wining in the Section 9 tournament on Feb. 10 at Monroe-Woodbury High School.
• Santander, wrestling at 195 lbs., was knocked out of contention after dropping his first two matches.
• Earl won his first two matches by decision before losing to Greg Diakomihalis, who won the state championship.
He then dropped his next match before wining his finale match to finish in fifth place at 113 lbs.
• Vespa, wrestling at 120 lbs., won his first match before losing a close 1-0 decision.
He then took his next three matches in a row, defeating Devin Woodworth who had defeated him earlier in the tournament, to finish in third place at the state tournament.
