Wizards have no magic against the Crusaders

Washingtonville. Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Girls Basketball team is off to 3-0 start, winning each game by more than 30 points.

The Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Basketball team is off to a great start this year, having won the first three games by an average of 30-plus points.

This is a new era for Crusader basketball as Dave Powers takes over as head coach and Bill Earl takes over as assistant. Powers moved over from the Boys Varsity; Earl also used to be head coach of the Boys Varsity.

On Monday night, Dec. 16, he Crusaders traveled to Washingtonville to face the Wizards in a no league match up.

In the first quarter the Crusaders jumped out to a 16-7 lead with Toni Neely scoring seven of her game-high 21.

The Crusaders increased their lead to 29-13 at the half as Jamie Waldron controlled the boards while scoring four of her six points on the night in the period.

The Crusaders ran away from the Wizards in the third quarter as Taylor Neely poured in seven of her 14 points, increasing the lead to 53-21.

The Crusaders finished off the Wizards, scoring 14 more points in the final quarter as Alyx Sperling scored five and the Crusaders walked away with a 67-16 victory over Washingtonville.

The Crusaders' next game will be Dec. 19 when they travel to Pine Bush.
