Swim bike run

MONROE Swimmers, bikers and runner get ready: The first-ever triathlon event is coming to Monroe.
Registration has begun for the inaugural YMCA of Middletown Triathlon to benefit the South Orange Family YMCA, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Twin Lakes Waterski Park in Monroe.
The triathlon will feature a one-third mile swim at the water ski park , in a counter-clockwise direction around two large marker buoys that will be set up in a triangular fashion. It will be held in waves of 50 competitors at three minute intervals, based on race number assigned.
That is followed by a 14-mile bike ride which starts at the transition area at Orange-Rockland Road. Bikers will travel through the towns of Blooming Grove, Chester and Monroe on Route 17M, Bull Mill Road, Laroe Road, County Road 13, Lehigh Road, Greycourt Road, Craigsville Road, Old Mansion Road, Museum Village Road and end up at the starting point.
The three-mile run then begins at Orange-Rockland Road to Mansion Village Road and concludes at the finish line opposite Twin Lakes Waterski Park.
Awards will given to the top three overall individuals and in five year age groups for ages 15 to 19; 20 to 24; 24 to 29; 30 to 34; and in five year intervals up to 70 plus for men; and 60 plus for women. There are no relay team awards. Results will be posted on www.NYTRI.org.
The event is sanctions by USA Triathlon. An annual $45 membership or one day $12 membership is required to participate. To learn more, visit www.usatriathon.org.
Registration is limited to 500 competitors. Entry fees are $80 for individuals and $160 for a two or three person relay team. Online registration ends Aug. 23 at 5 p.m.
