GOSHEN — After a two successful years hosting the annual charity alumni soccer tournament at John S. Burke Catholic High School, the Sweitzer Cup will relocate to a new sports facility in Chester: Rock Sports Park.

“We are extremely grateful for the hospitality provided by the administration at Burke Catholic where Tim was a student,” said Sweitzer Cup founder Rory Brady. “However, the tournament has grown to a level where state-of-the-art facilities and additional infrastructure is necessary to take the event to the next level.”

The tournament, a charity event featuring local alumni teams, benefits the Timothy J. Swetizer Memorial Foundation. It was established in memory of Tim Sweitzer, a scholar-athlete who died mid-way through his senior year at Burke Catholic. Tim was set to graduate that June and attend Johns Hopkins University the following fall.

“Tim was a great friend and touched the lives of many, this tournament allows us to honor him and carry on his legacy,” Brady stated. “In just two short years we have raised thousands of dollars, we plan to award a scholarship and provide resources for local schools to improve educational opportunities for all residents of Orange County.”

A kickoff event is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at GW’s American Burgers in Chester. The event coincides with the UEFA EURO Championship Final, which begins at 2:45 p.m.

Admission is $25, which includes wings, soft drinks, and beer for the duration of the soccer match. Proceeds from the event will offset costs associated with hosting the tournament.
