    — Dakota Finocchiaro, a member of the Monroe-Woodbury Boys Varsity Ski team coached by Raymond Hodges, is the Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 16.
The senior co-captain has been a four-year varsity ski team starter and has now qualified for Section IX competition in all four of his racing seasons.
He has also qualified for the New York State Championships for the past two years, skiing at Whiteface Mountain in 2016 and at Bristol Mountain in 2017.
Dakota recorded the fastest Grand Slalom (GS) time this year at Mt. Peter, finishing the race in under 28 seconds (27.72 seconds).
He made his fourth straight appearance in the Section IX Championships at Hunter Mountain on Feb. 13, seeking to replicate his past success and qualify for the state championships for a third consecutive year, which will be held at Bristol Mountain at the end of February.
Dakota also plays a key role in the Monroe-Woodbury “Morning Show,” serving as an anchor reporter and production assistant, which includes both the editing and filming of the show.
Dakota plans to attend college locally in September, possibly majoring in media communications.
