Monroe-Woodbury wrestlers pin a whopping defeat on Cornwall

Central Valley. Crusaders' 71-12 victory over the Dragons provides momentum for their match this Friday at home against the Wizards of Washingtonville.

On Wednesday night, Jan. 15, the Crusaders hosted a wrestling match against the Dragons of Cornwall.

The match started with the 145 lbs. weight class where Danny Downs got the Crusaders going by taking a 13-3 decision.

Mike Zrelak kept the Crusaders going by recording a pin in 48 seconds at 152 lbs. and Joe McGinty kept the team rolling with a forfeit at 160 lbs.

The Crusaders lead increased when Max Wernicki recorded a pin in 1:51 at 170 lbs. and Mike Paravati took a 12-3 decision at 182 lbs.

The Crusader took control of the match when Steven Felice took a forfeit at 195 lbs. followed by Michael Brafi pinning his opponent at 2:48 of his 220 lbs. weight class and Frank Hernandez finished off his opponent in 41 seconds of their 285-lbs. bout.

As the match turned to the light weight division the Crusaders kept right on scoring. Jordan Brown pined his opponent in 2:15 at 99 lbs.

In the match of the night Crusader Dan Connelly outwrestled Robert Hickman 17-13 in overtime.

The Dragons finally got on the board when Tyler Reed got a pin in his 113 lbs. match but Crusader Grant Barczak answered right back and recorded a pin at 1:25 of his 120-lbs. contest.

The Dragons got their second victory of the match at 126 lbs. when Colin Spaulding recorded a pin. Crusader Santos Ocasio answered back with a 30-second pin at 132 lbs.

The match ended when Crusader Dominic Wasto won by forfeit at 138 lbs.

The Crusaders looked strong in their 71-12 victory over the Dragons. They hope to keep their momentum going when take on the Wizards of Washingtonville at home on Friday night.
