On Monday, Oct. 21, the Monroe-Woodbury swimmers and divers celebrated their seniors as they took their honorary last jump into the Crusader pool.

They swam their final lap side by side as coaches, teammates, family and friends cheered them on.

This year eight seniors were honored: Captains Jessica O’Brien, Jessica Ebner, Claire Armstrong, Emma Khorassani and Emma Herbst, along with seniors Chloe Quinn, Cristen Wolff and Sophia Kohlbecker.

These seniors have formed a very special bond as five of them began their journey in the pool 12 years ago while swimming for the Marlins. They have also been members of the varsity team since the seventh grade.

The team persevered through a season filled with obstacles. Their pool was closed for a few weeks, resulting in the loss of hosting a home meet and in this time their school days lasted into the late evenings as they took buses to and from neighboring schools so they could get their practice time in.

On Monday, there were plenty of tears, hugs and many laughs as these young ladies took in their well-deserved celebration of each other.

The team, under the guidance of Coach Justin Wright, Coach Liz Gove and diving Coach Pat Capriglione, finished their regular season 8-3 as they enter counties this Friday in Washingtonville.
