Wednesday, September 25 at Newburgh Free Academy On Wednesday nite the Crusaders traveled to Newburgh to take on the Goldbacks in a crucial OCIAA Division 1 match.

Both the Crusaders and the Goldbacks entered the game undefeated in league play.

The Goldbacks had the advantage throughout the first half, recording six shots on goal that Crusaders goalie Paddy Gilen was able to control.

The Crusaders lone first half highlight came from Owen Kelly who beat his defender down the side line and got off the shot that just rolled wide.

The Crusaders came out strong in the second half and scored half way through the period. Crusader Tenmetry Tetteh-Nartey led Mason Yamamoto down the side with a pass, Yamamoto then beat his defender and got off a quick shot and scored.

The Goldbacks responded and started to pressure the Crusaders and in the 65 minute of play tied the game at 1.

Then with five minutes left in the game the Goldbacks scored again to take the lead and it looked like the Crusaders were done.

But the Crusaders still had Petro Klisch.

He took a nice pass from the middle of the field from Tetteh-Nartey, beat his defender, then hopped over the sliding tackle of the Newburgh goalie and put the ball into the Goldbacks goal to tie the score with 12 seconds left on the clock.

Neither team was able to score in overtime and the game ended with a 2-2 draw.

The tie brings the Crusaders record to 5-2-2 on the season. Their next game will be on Friday when they host the Valley Central Vikings.
