On a warm Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 1, the Crusaders traveled to Cornwall High School to face the Dragons in a non-league girls varsity soccer game.

The Crusaders entered the game with a 7-1 record on the season following their 8-0 victory over Newburgh Free Academy last Thursday. The Dragons' season record stood at 5-2.

The Crusaders controlled most of the play in the first half and finally broke the ice when Josephine Sorce’s shot hit the cross bar and Marissa Key headed it into the top of the Dragon net.

After the Crusader goal, the Dragons pushed the ball into the Crusaders zone but the Crusaders defense led by goalie Angela Fini and defenders Kayla Bauer, Gabrielle Mpasiakos, Kiley Metcalf and Teyha Harvey just shut the Dragons down.

The Crusaders defense has stepped up again this year and has recorded seven shutouts in nine games.

In the second half of the game the Crusaders kept the ball in the Cornwall zone and had several good scoring chances but were unable to register another score.

The 1-0 victory brings the Crusaders' record to 8-1. They were to travel to Pine Bush on Wednesday for their next game.
