CENTRAL VALLEY — On Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 3, the Crusaders took on the undefeated Wildcats of Warwick Valley in a non-league match in Central Valley.
The Crusaders entered the game with an unbeaten record against Section 9 opponents over the last two years.
The two teams met twice last year - a tie in the regular season and the Crusaders' 3-1 victory in the Section 9 title game.
The battle of the two Section 9 heavyweights did not disappoint as both teams put on a display of hard-nosed defense as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
On the bright side for the Crusaders they controlled the tempo, time of possession and out shot the Wildcats seven to one.
On the Wildcats side they were able to come to Central Valley face the four-time consecutive defending Section 9 champs and go toe to toe with them and leave with their unbeaten streak in tact.
The Crusaders had several real good scoring opportunities throughout the game but they hit the cross bar or got a piece of the post or the Wildcat goalie came up with a big save.
If the two teams continue on their current track it looks as though they may meet again in late October with the Section 9 title on the line again.
The tie brings their record to 8-2-1 on the season. Their next game will be on Oct. 5 when they travel to Pine Bush.
