M-W Varsity Volleyball team defeats Valley Central as it celebrates three seniors




CENTRAL VALLEY — On Friday, Oct. 26, at Monroe Woodbury High School, the Crusaders honored the seniors on the varsity volleyball team as played their last home game of the season against the Valley Central Vikings.
In a brief ceremony after they had warmed up, the three seniors were given a poster, flowers and had their photo taken with their parents.
The Crusaders entered the match with a 7-7 record on the season and the Vikings record stood at 3-13.
The two teams battled through the first set as the Crusaders pulled away at the end to take a 25-18 decision.
The second set was even more closely contested with the Crusaders squeezing out a 25-22 decision.
The Crusaders then went on a tear and put the Vikings away 25-7 in the finale set to sweep the match 3-0.
The Crusaders were led to the sweep of the Vikings by the senior trio of Hayley Cowart, with 16 assists, two digs and one ace; Jessica Ader with 11 kills, 14 digs and five aces; and Amanda Kelly with eight kills, four assists, three digs and three aces.
The Crusaders victory brings their record to 8-7 on the season their next match will be Tuesday when they travel to Warwick to take on the Wildcats.
