CENTRAL VALLEY — The Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Softball Team kept its playoff hopes alive by beating the Wizards of Washingtonville by a score of 13-1 last Thursday, May 12.
The Wizards scored one in the top of the first but were shutout the rest of the way by starting pitcher Brooke Hughes, who registered six strikeouts in three innings, and reliever Jenn Lawson, who recorded six strikeouts over four innings.
The Crusaders tied the game in the bottom of the first and then added two runs in the second, six more in the third and finally four in the fifth.
Lawson lead the Crusaders' 16-hit attack with four hits while Meg Blair added two hits and two RBI’s.
The victory brings the team's season record to 9-9. The Crusaders will qualify for the playoffs for the first time in many years is they can win one of the next two games.
