M-W Varsity Girls Soccer team begins defense of Section 9 AA title

SUFFERN — The Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Girls Soccer Team traveled to the Suffern Middle School on Monday, Aug. 27, for the last tune-up of the preseason.
The Crusaders took part in a multi-team scrimmage with the Mounties of Suffern and the Golden Knights of Nanuet.
The three teams played each other in mini-games of 50 minutes with two 25 minute halves.
The Crusaders' defense looked strong, allowing only one goal in the two games and that came on a penalty kick.
The offense moved the ball well and created a few scoring opportunities but kept coming up short until Liz Allen scored two quick goals in the closing minutes of the Crusaders' last game against the Golden Knights.
Head Coach Bill Mpasiakos used the scrimmage to get a finale look at his team under game conditions as he gets the team ready for their season opener.
The Crusaders will start their defense of their Section 9 AA Title when they host the Gladiators of Goshen on Thursday afternoon.
