M-W Varsity Girls Basketball team begins pre-season scrimmages

THIELLS — On Friday morning, the day after Thanksgiving, the Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Girls Basketball Team the Crusaders began its preseason schedule of scrimmage games at North Rockland High School.
The Crusaders enter the season having won the Section 9 Championship the last three years in a row and have been unbeaten in league and Section 9 play over the last two seasons.
Head Coach Pat Harris and Assistant Coach Lauren Alberti will have just two short weeks to get the team ready for the 2017-18 season.
The Crusaders will have to fill the four starting spots vacated by the departing seniors.
Senior Caroline Helbeck will lead a strong group of returning players from last year's team featuring Melissa Alfano, Savannah Paul, Jamie Waldron, Ava Delardi, Liz Allen Taylor Neely, Toni Neely and Liz Allen.
This years rookies include Colleen Kinsella, Alyx Sperling, Kathleen Silverstein, Mia Schoen and Cassie Hiner.
The team will scrimmage again on Thursday afternoon at home as they continue to round into shape for the season.
