M-W Girls Indoor Track team shows strong start at the NYC Armory meet

— It was nearly midnight and spirits were high as the Monroe-Woodbury Girls Indoor Track team arrived home from their first meet of the 2017-18 season: The North Shore High School season opener at the Armory in New York City.
The M-W girls have won OCIAA and Section IX titles in the past four seasons and were eager to get an early indication of their fitness for this year.
Thirty-two high schools from eastern New York state participated in the meet.
Three M-W athletes placed first in their events:
Margaret Ryan won the opening event, the 1,500 meter race walk with a time of 7:41.97;
Gabrielle Nebiker won the pole vault at a height of nine feet-six inches; and
The 4X400m relay team (Angela Iaccarino, Asya Jeune, Gabrielle Nebiker, Amelia Giraud) won in a time of 4:18.44.
Other top finishers for Monroe-Woodbury were:
Olivia Fisher (fourth, 1500m race walk, 8:50.63);
Angela Iaccarino (second, 600m run, 1:44.04)
4X200m relay (fifth, 1:51.79, Nia Slaughter, Asya Jeune, Lisa Jacobsen and Jody Smith).
Jody Smith (sixth 55m dash, 00:07.68);
Lisa Jacobsen (fourth, 55m hurdles, 9.25 and second in high jump, 5'2"); and
Asya Jeune (fifth, long jump, 15' 4.75").
The team's next contest will be Saturday, Dec. 9, at West Point beginning at 1 p.m.
