M-W Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country teams are each 2017 OCIAA champions

BEAR MOUNTAIN — On a breautiful fall afternoon, Friday, Oct. 27, the Crusaders Boys and Girls teams traveled to Bear Mountain State Park to take part in the OCIAA Cross Country Meet.
BoysThe boys varsity race started at noon with 141 runners from 24 teams.
Liam Higgins of Goshen finished first with a time of 15:22.14 over the three-mile coarse.
The Monroe-Woodbury Boys Varsity team came in first with a score of 78 points; Warwick was a close second with 89 points and Cornwall third with 92.
Crusader Trevor Ladue took third place with a time of 15:51.37.
The other top finishers for the Crusaders were Andrew Yi in 11th place, Daniel Hynes at 17th, Kevin Paik at 23rd and Skylar Brodsky at 24th.
The Crusaders boys victory marked the end of a long drought for the team. It was their first title since 2003.
GirlsThe Girls Varsity race started at 12:30 p.m. with 21 teams and 100 runners.
Crusader, Jessica Pidgeon took first place with a time of 18:15.32 over the three-mile course.
The Crusaders Girls team came in first place with a score of 30, Cornwall took second with 68 and Warwick third with 78.
The other top finishers for the Crusaders were Julia Hoyt in fifth, Rachel Hirschkind in sixth, Daniella Napoli in eighth, and Sarah Kern in tenth.
The Crusader Girls' victory is their third consecutive OCIAA title.
The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams will be back at Bear Mountain on Friday, Nov. 3, for the Section 9 championship meet.
